Nov. 25: Bethesday Tournament Results

The u14 boys capped a wonderful fall season that saw them finish 1st in MAPLE Division 1, be a finalist in the Farmngton tournament, with a great run to the finals of the Bethesda Tournament. The boys began the tournament playing two teams from Pennsylvannia. On Saturday, the boys won the first game 1-0 and played some of their most attractive soccer of the year. The boys jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second match and then made adjustments as our opponents went to a 2-4-4 lineup. In both games teams were using a variety of zonal combinations to unbalance our side. The boys did a very nice job of adjusting to the variety of tactics. On Sunday the boys faced a very good Williamsburg, VA side with both teams having a chance of going forward with a victory. Western jumped out to a 1-0 halftime lead on a brilliant bending pass to an overlapping midfielder who finished the play. Williamsburg changed up tactically and had some very good chances to equalize however, the boys were able to keep them off the board and move on to the final against a NJ team. The boys came slowly out of the gate in the finals and surrendered an early goal to trail 1-0 at the half. With the second half came new life as the boys really took the play to the NJ eleven. Against the run of play NJ scored on a counterattack to go up 2-0. The boys did not give up and pulled a goal back and created several outstanding chances to equalize right up to the final whistle. the boys will begin indoor training on December 13th.
