Parents Code of Conduct
Western United, F.C. enjoys a reputation as a fair, positive, successful and well-run soccer club. We are proud of this reputation and believe it is essential that we maintain this reputation. We strive to ensure an environment that is positive and enjoyable and is characterized by a spirit of fair play. Youth soccer should be fun and unifying - a spirited social and athletic occasion for players, coaches, referees and spectators. All representatives of our club (players, coaches, administrators, and parents) must conduct themselves in accordance with these standards and expectations. To assist parents in understanding our club standards and expectations we have established the following code of conduct:
- The head coach is responsible for parents behavior at all games. Any inappropriate behavior by parents negatively reflects on the coach, the players and Western United. A coach’s instructions on appropriate behavior must be followed.
- Parents should be an example of dignity, patience and positive spirit at all times.
- Parents should applaud for good play by either team.
- Do not tell the players what to do. By the time they hear and process what you have to say the situation on the field has changed and what you have told them is no longer is the best option.
- Never openly criticize a referee or other game official. This will absolutely not be tolerated!
- Never address members of the opposing team’s players and coaches unless to congratulate them.
- Do not engage in negative interactions with the parents of the opposing team. Resist the temptation to respond to their inappropriate behavior.
- Interact positively with parents within your own team. We are all in this together. If you feel that your child is being treated unfairly, take the issue up privately with the coach.
Premier soccer is an exciting, competitive environment that serves as a wonderful opportunity for the players to learn the game and grow as individuals. Please do not let your conduct spoil that. Parents will be held accountable for their failure to abide by this code of conduct. Please report any infractions of this code to the coach and/or any Western Board member. Thank you!
