Under-13 Boys Black Team (Fall 2010)

Fall 2010

Final week (week 9)

The U13 black team finished the fall 1-5-3 with their second consecutive 0-0 tie against Stars of Mass. Playing well for the good guys were Forward Deane Bates who showed great poise in holding and waiting for numbers. Defender Will Ryan played a complete match at CB and figured critically in the shutout. Keeper Brody Lynch made some great decisions in the net for western and helped stop any Stars attacks. All three were chosen Men of the Match.

Week 8

On this cold, windswept Sunday, the boys faced the fast and very physical Blackwatch Premier G team on the turf of Galbraith Field. The physically smaller Western United team got bounced around a bit out there, but showed their grit as they refused to cower and continued to come right back at the Blackwatch hard.

The Western defense, lead by Man of the Match Will Ryan, kept the Blackwatch offense at bay. Will and his men pulled a perfectly timed offside trap, catching the Blackwatch forwards off guard, which disallowed the only goal of the game. Spencer Caron and Brody Lynch shared time in net and took turns saving the day by deflecting some hard, well struck shots.

In the mid field, Colin Dearborn attempted to keep the team connected and anchored with his hustle and hard play. Colin continues to demonstrate absolutely no self preservation instinct as he used his body and head to take the ball out of the air. On offense, the fast, strong and ever-dangerous, co-Man of the Match Jamey Fisher kept the Blackwatch defense busy fending off the quick Western offensive surges. James and his comrades, Christiano Marconi and Bailey Emerson, made the Blackwatch team and their cheering section sweat as some fast breaks and quick release shots just barely missed their marks.

The game ended with the hardest fought 0-0 tie of the season. Way to be tough out their guys!!

Week 7

Benfica handed the U13 Black team a 2-0 loss on Sunday. Two wind-tossed shots beat Western defense and ended up being the difference. Men of the Match were AJ Mercer, Chris Tracy, and Andrew Becker. All three played confident midfield and were the linking force behind this week's improved play.

Week 6 and Oct 23rd State Cup Challenge Match

The U13 Boys Black team did it again in the challenge round of the State Cup with a goal in the first overtime to beat the Aztecs 1-0. Man of the Match Spencer Caron drilled a corner near post and with the help of a pretty stiff wind and a misplay by the opposing keeper, the winning goal was scored. Brody Lynch split time with Spencer in net and also gained Man of the Match with some smart keeping and a great save in the first overtime. Defenders Dominic Rosario, Ryan Stinson, and Will Ryan (third Man of the Match) played full matches and helped avenge an early season 3-1 loss to the Aztecs.

The team's next game in May will be against the Greater Boston Bolts....a team that scored two goals in the last 5 minutes of last year's State Cup game to erase a 1-0 lead and help knock the Black team out of the round robin stage. More revenge is in order!

In their Maple game Sunday, despite playing well at times the u13 black team fell to undefeated Liverpool FC 2-0.

Spencer Caron and Brody Lynch played well in goal. Earning man of the match awards were Chris Tracey for his outside mid play, Colin Dearborn for solid central midfield play, and Dominic Rosario for his central back play.

Week 5

Another tough away loss for the u13 Boys Black Team as they fall to Hammer SC 3-0.

Western only managed a few shots on a very organized and skilled team. Man of the match was Tyler Poisson who filled in admirably at outside back in his first start. Spencer Caron and Brody Lynch split time in net.

Week 4 and October 2nd State Cup Challenge Match

It looked like it was going to be one of THOSE games. One where a Western team plays awesome soccer, dominates the whole game, and then something bad happens to cost them a match.

At Lancaster on Saturday, the U13 Black team with OT heroics from Bailey Emerson won their first State Cup challenge game 1-0. Despite out-shooting their opponent 12-1, the game was stretched into overtime. In the second overtime, with 4 minutes remaining, a loose ball off of a corner was won by man of the match Ryan Stinson, layed off to Spencer Caron, who expertly crossed to a waiting Bailey who headed home the game-winner. Also earning MOM awards were Colin Dearborn, who continuously kept the opponent locked into their own end from his midfield position, and Tyler Poisson, who calmly played some great soccer from centerback.

In Maple play on Sunday, The U13 boys Black team scored a great second half goal to make up for an own goal and earned a tie against the Pioneers. Will Ryan (1st Man of the Match) deftly headed a perfect restart from Christiano Marconi (second Man of the Match) with 12 minutes left. Third Man of the Match Spencer Caron split time in net with Brody Lynch and made a technically spectacular break-away save with a few minutes left to save the day.

At 1-2-1, the U13 boys Black team needs to turn it up a notch to keep their Division II spot!

Week 3

The U13 black team took it on the chin from NEFC 6-0. Though the game wasn't dominated by the Eagles, Western had a disappointing effort and will look to recover before next Saturday's State Cup Challenge match. Men of the Match were Brody Lynch, Chris Tracy and Ryan Stinson.

Week 2

The U13 Boys Black team overcame a two hour ride to notch their first win of the year against North Shore,3 goals to 1.

After giving up an early goal to the Home team western stormed back with a great one timer from First Man of the Match Deane Bates. After a miss-clear Bailey Emerson dropped a deft pass back to Deane who used the inside of his foot to place a shot over the ill positioned keeper. The second and third goals were scored by Man of the Match Jamsey Fisher. His first on a well disquised through ball by AJ Mercer, the second on a great entry pass by Bailey that Jamsey drilled low and far post. Also claiming Man of the match was Dominic Rosario. Dominic's speed up and down the flank from his outside back was spectacular. He had numerous serves yet defended his position with tenacity....saving the day on more than one occasion. Spencer Caron and Brody Lynch split time in goal and also played well in the field.

Next weeks game is against first place and league favorite NEFC.

Week 1

The U 13 Black team began the season with a tough 2-1 loss to the Aztecs. Struggling to find a rhythm for much of the game the team turned it on in the last 5 minutes when Spencer Caron's direct kick was barely touched over the cross bar by the enemy Keeper. A few minutes later Man of the Match Brody Lynch worked a marvelous combination with Bailey Emerson for a first time shot at the edge of the 18 that beat the goalie cleanly. Too little too late for the visiting team however as Western tries to retool for the week two match against North Shore.

Caron and Lynch split keeper duty while AJ Mercer (calm and creative play-making) and Ryan Stinson (tenacious defending) also earned M-O-M honors. Chris Tacey & Tyler Poisson both played well in their first MAPLE game.

Fall 2009

Week 6

The U 12 Boys black team won their 4th consecutive game behind the goalkeeping of Brody Lynch and John Brodeur. Goals came from Chad Parent on a Penalty Kick and Jamsey Fisher on a great combination from men of the Match Cam DellaTorre and AJ Mercer. Cam sent a perfect diagonal pass to AJ who cut up the defender then slotted a no look pass to the waiting Jamsey. Dominic Roasrio also earned Man of the match from his defensive position. Few 12 year olds get forward on the flanks the way this speedy defender does.

Week 5

The Black team moved into first place in the second division with a convincing 5-0 win over The Blast. Jamsey Fisher (man of the match) had 2 goals and a spectacular Head ball assist to Christiano Marconi. AJ Mercer, and Andrew Becker also scored. Man of the match cudos also go to Chad parent for his splendid playmaking and Colin Dearborn who chased down numerous breaks for the opponents. John Brodeur and Brody Lynch shared the shutout in goal.....third week in a row.

Week 4

The u12 Black team won their second game in grand fashion with a 5-0 victory over JSBA. 5 Different players scored for the Western Team led by men of the match Jamsey Fisher, Colin Paleologopoulos and Chad Parent. Week 3

The u12 black team won their first MAPLE game with a 2-1 victory over the Cape Cod Crusaders. Man of the Match Andrew Becker Got the first half goal on a great feed from Spencer Caron. Christiano Marconi netted the game winner with 10 minutes to go on a nifty 4 person combination. Brody Lynch and John Brodeur were again fantastic in net. The Backs were again led by Jesse Cohen Lindsfor, Will Ryan and Co-Man of the Match Dominic Rosario. The Black Team stands at 1-1-1 and has only given up 2 goals in three games against excellent competition.

Week 2

The Black team turned in another great defensive effort but missed on their chances having to settle for a tie with Liverpool FC 0-0. The starting back four of Will Ryan, Colin Dearborn, Dominic Rosario, and Jesse Cohen-Lindfors played the bulk of the minutes and supplied great cover for Keepers John Brodeur and Brody Lynch. Jessie, Will and Deane Bates (who saved a goal) were chosen as men of the match. After 2 games the team has given up few scoring chances and only 1 goal.
